The Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) students staged the fundraiser with the help of Drama and ASDAN Teacher Kayleigh Brown, Cover Supervisor Michelle Victoria, and Learning Support Assistants Sue Kirby and Jenny Southerland.

“Cakes were provided by staff, students and family members,” said Ms Brown. “We were blown away by how generous everyone had been. We could not thank everyone enough.

“We don’t know how many attended the event, but we only had a few cakes remaining at the end of our lunch session, so we see that as a huge success.”

The Coffee Morning is a regular fixture in the school’s calendar, and this year raised £232 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“All staff and students did a phenomenal job running the event,” continued Ms Brown. 

“It is important for students to understand how to put on an event and to be able to focus on the steps needed to make it successful. It allows students to blossom in environments that they wouldn’t normally have access to and assess the skills that may have been hidden.”

“It is also important for the students to have ownership of their projects,” she added. “The students really blew me away with their preparation, their enthusiasm, and their understanding of how important charities like Macmillan are.

“I am a very proud teacher.”
